Recharging

The last ten or twelve days has produced little usable writing, and I’m writing this as an exercise before I pop back into the Insulated Man’s world. The stress of the day job has been considerable, and I’ve been using my mornings to exercise again which was something I hadn’t really done for about six months. I have been alternately exhausted and frustrated in the mornings with weather, work and my weight so the exercise is really necessary as it helps me clear my head and see things more clearly.

The time away from everything else, just concentrating on what the body needs to fire up is always good. I have worked out story issues, work problems and even how to say things to the family while I’ve been walking. About three years ago I started doing this regularly and saw my weight decrease dramatically, which helped me feel better physically and mentally which allowed me to excel at work and feel more creative. Two and a half miles in about forty minutes or so is all it takes. I highly recommend it if you’re not already doing something exercise-wise for yourself. It really does help.

So does getting away from it all. I’m heading out for a vacation soon, before the launch of the site here. I’m going to take a few days and head out to Colorado where I got the idea to write short stories in the first place. I’m taking the computer and the cell phone, but there’s no wireless, no internet but for dialup in the house. I will be off the grid for several days, and that’s as good as it can get. On top of that, I’ll be in the mountains in spring, where it’s cool/cold in the mornings and perfect in the afternoons. There’s even the possibility of snow, even in late May.

I need this, I’ve earned it and I’m going to take advantage of it. I can take a couple of hours each day and likely crank out some good amounts of writing then spend the rest of the time with my family. I will be refreshed (anyone else wonder why we don’t have Heinlein’s refreshers yet?) and ready to fire up the first story on June 3rd.

More next week on how the actual setup here will work. Meantime, be good to each other and do a lot of reading.
